Abstract

The current research aims to examine the predictability of Empathy levels based on some certain cognitive variables such as: executive functions and learning performance. To achieve this objective, a descriptive methodology was used to explore the nature of the relationship between the research variables (empathy, executive functions, and learning performance). The sample consisted of 120 children in preschool, aged between 5 and 7 years. The study sample was divided into two levels: the first level included 57 children aged 5 to 6 years, while the second level consisted of 63 children aged 6 to 7 years, from the Gamal Abdel Nasser National School in Heliopolis, Cairo. The current research utilized the following tools: Empathy Questionnaire (CAES, translated by the researcher), a teacher observation form for Empathy behavior, the Executive Functions Scale (by Dawson and Guare), and an Learning performance form approved by the Ministry of Education. The results indicated that: a) it is possible to predict the level of access to the other among preschool children based on their level of executive functions, and b) it is possible to predict the level of access to the other among preschool children based on their level of educational performance.
